Membership Requirements

New Membership

Eligible active duty members and veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to the Post Membership Committee:

  1. Complete American Legion Membership Application.

    Note: Print two (2) completed copies.  Keep one copy for your records. Mail the other copy to 17662 Beaver Dam Rd, Beaverdam, VA 23015,
    together with your dues payment. (Dues amount is on application).  Applications are also available at Post 90.

  2. Provide a copy of your Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD-214). If on your first enlistment, please provide a copy of current orders and your Common Access Card (CAC) showing expiration date.

  3. Pay the membership dues (amount shown on application). Make checks payable to: The American Legion Post 90. DO NOT SEND CASH.

  4. If the information is correct, membership will be approved and a membership card will be mailed to you.

  5. Please see eligibility dates below.


Legion members applying for a transfer from their current Post to Post 90 must submit the following:

  1. Complete American Legion Membership Application.

  2. Provide a copy of your Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD-214).

  3. Provide a copy of your current membership card.

  4. If current dues are paid, please pay dues for the following years' membership.


Membership eligibility in The American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces between:

April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 - World War I
December 7, 1941 to a Date to be Determined 

Active Duty: Because eligibility date remains open, current members of the U.S. Armed Forces are able to join The American Legion until the date of the end of hostilities, as determined by the United States government.

Veterans: Must have served at least one day of active military duty during one of the dates listed and been Honorably discharged.
